Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English | Deutsch | Español | Français | Italiano ]

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel compound that features many comforts accompanying the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
