Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is illegal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that features numerous amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
