Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are supposedly required to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, contains 150 slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel building that highlights a number of comforts in addition to the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
