Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gambling is illegal. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that contains a number of comforts aside from the casino, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
